The 41st CMAAO President
(2024-2025)

Distinguished Delegates, Esteemed Colleagues, Honored Guests,

It is with great pride and humility that I stand before you today, ready to serve as your President for the Confederation of Medical Association in Asia and Oceania. I am deeply honored by the trust you have placed in me, and I pledge to dedicate my efforts towards advancing our collective mission.

A vital part of our strength lies in our diversity. We represent a vast array of cultures, medical practices, and innovations, spanning from the shores of Japan to the bustling cities of India, from Australia’s advanced healthcare systems to emerging practices in Southeast Asia. Together, we epitomize a powerhouse of knowledge and expertise.

The world today faces unprecedented challenges, notably the ongoing battle against pandemics, climate change impacts on health, and the ever-pressing need for equitable healthcare. These challenges necessitate a united front, and I am confident that by leveraging our shared expertise, we can create solutions that resonate beyond our borders.

My tenure will focus on three key pillars: Innovation, Collaboration, and Sustainability.

Innovation

We must continually push the boundaries of medical science. By fostering an environment that encourages research, development, and the adoption of new technologies, we can provide our patients with the best possible care. Let us invest in cutting-edge medical technologies, from telemedicine to advanced genomic research, and create a framework that supports these advancements across our member nations.

Collaboration

Our strength lies in our unity. I envision a future where best practices are shared seamlessly, where collaborative research projects transcend borders, and where we stand as a cohesive unit in global health dialogues. Enhancing cross-border collaborations and fostering partnerships with global health organizations will amplify our impact. By working together, we can overcome the barriers that hinder our progress and ensure that no country is left behind.

Sustainability

Sustainable practices in healthcare are paramount for a healthy future. This includes not only environmental sustainability but also the sustainable development of healthcare systems. We must strive to create healthcare models that are resilient, adaptable, and inclusive. This will require us to address the root causes of health disparities, advocate for policies that promote equitable access, and ensure that our healthcare systems can withstand future challenges.

As we step into this new chapter, I am reminded of the words of Nelson Mandela: “It always seems impossible until it is done.” Our journey will be filled with challenges, but with determination and unity, there is nothing we cannot achieve. Each one of you brings a unique strength to our collective endeavor, and I am eager to harness this potential over the coming years.Together, let us shape the future of healthcare in Asia and Oceania. Let us be the bearers of change, the champions of innovation, and the harbingers of a healthier, more equitable world.

Thank you for your trust, and I look forward to our collective journey ahead.

With gratitude and solidarity,
Prof. Maria Minerva P. Calimag, M.D., Ph.D.
